The Samsung jitterbug phone is a wonderful device. Many people my age are intimidated by electronics, and with good reason. They can be difficult to see, difficult to hear, and generally not designed with seniors in mind. When my daughter first told me that I should get a cell phone, I laughed. I knew that I should have one in case of an emergency, but I just didn’t think that I would be able to use one. I ended up telling her that a cell phone would be too expensive and figured that would be the end of the discussion.
For my birthday I was surprised to find that despite my objections, my daughter went ahead and got me a cell phone. Fortunately it wasn’t just any cell phone, it was a jitterbug, and I absolutely love it! The jitterbug is designed for seniors like me. It’s a clamshell phone that’s not too bulky but at the same time it’s not so small that it’s easy to lose in my purse.
The screen inside the phone displays large, easy-to-read text, so I always know that I’m dialing the right numbers. The keypad is just as wonderful. There are no unnecessary buttons, only the usual digits as well as a YES and NO buttons. And the buttons are large and easy to read as well, so I don’t have to worry about hitting the wrong number when I dial. There’s a light on the keyboard as well so I’m able to use the phone at night. If I ever have the need to make a call in the middle of the night, it’s comforting to know that I’ll be able to use the phone without having to get up to turn on the lights.
The most important feature for me is the speaker. It’s loud and clear. I never have to ask the person on the other line to repeat what they said, and they can hear me just as clearly. I originally had intended to only to use the phone in emergencies, but it’s so convenient and such a delight to use that I rarely use my home phone. If you decide to buy this great phone, I will receive a small contribution to my retirement fund!
